I don't remember it being hard to learn to ride a bike...
This will be the summer that I remember as
"Annie learning to ride a bike summer."
We have been trying to teach her for years.
YEARS!
She is on her third brand-new bike,
she keeps outgrowing them before she can ride them.
She is seven.
I keep thinking she will learn...
It is more fun to hit your head on a brick wall
than to teach her to ride a bike.
When I say she has learned, I mean,
she can go forward without training wheels.
She loves it.
She goes zooming around one handle bar with streamers,
as the other was chopped off by her brother,
(causing many tears).
I should feel good now
but I am scared.
She hits parked cars.
Parked!
"WATCH OUT CAR!"
Don't feel bad little car...if she misses you this time,
she'll get you next time.
She drives down the middle of the road.
I only let her go to the mailbox & back (two houses away)
& I hold my breath until she returns safely.
"Get to the side!!!!"
"I AM!"
If we have a car in our driveway...
She will hit it,
probably twice.
If I am sitting in a chair on the driveway.
She will hit me,
probably twice.
Kelly: I'm going to take her for a bike ride.
Me: No! She is terrible! Take her to a bike path.
She hits parked cars.
Kelly: (Smiles) No, she doesn't.
Me: Annie! Come here! Do you hit every parked
car you pass when you ride your bike?
Annie: No, not every car. Most of them, but I missed
that one today.
She was serious.
We took her to a bike path.
I stayed behind with Roo in the stroller
& Rocco on his scooter.
When we met up, Kel said, "She's horrible!"
I chuckled, "Why?"
"Everytime a person comes by she barrels down the middle
& yells, "WATCH OUT!!!!"
Yesterday, when I was sitting out front watching the kids she slammed in to the garage door.
How can you not see a garage door?!
I just don't remember it being hard.
So, she learned to ride her bike
....now if I can get her to steer & stop,
it will be a miracle.
I'll have to put my biker hopes on Batman.

I'm glad she's learning how to ride! I recall it being tricky for one of my nephews. I guess some people just don't take to it the way the rest of the world does.
This is the funniest post ever! I showed it to my husband and we both laughed so hard. Annie is adorable. Our seven year old Emily is experiencing the same thing. It's taking forever to teach her to turn, stop, watch where she's going ... etc. She loves to go down hill and crash into things and fall over. She laughs and laughs ... What a funny age it is. Our 12 year old and our 24 year old aren't nearly as determined as these little 7 year olds are. Thanks so much for sharing this Libbie! I enjoyed it more than I can say!!!

Oh, I laughed out loud. Libbie that's just adorable! My son crashed into parked cars. It's like wherever they are looking, that's where they go! Oh, and the sea-party, I want to come to one of your wonderful affairs! :)
She is counterbalancing doing everything else so early :)
Oh, Libbie, I'm laughing out loud and my eyes are watering! SO FUNNY! We have videos of my oldest learning to ride her bike. She kept tipping over!!! I read this post her and she said, "BIG 'ups' for sticking with it!" :) Thank you for posting this! I'm still smiling!

Go ANNIE!!! Ii laughed all the way through this post! We had the same experience with the riding lawnmower at our house. My daughter ran over the puppy's pen, into the back of my daddy's truck causing repairable damage... she is grown up now and a great driver! :o)

When I was her age, I decided to do the "look mom, no hands" thing as I was going down the pebbled road in front of our house. As I was going down the hill, I hit a loose pebble, flipped and went skidding across the road. Wound up with scrapes from head to toe.
She'll get the hang of it sooner or later.
My almost 16 year old will be needing driving lessons soon ... and that really worries me! I hope he doesn't run into parked cars. Ha!

I didn't think it was that hard either to learn. My oldest was 7 and my youngest is almost 7 and still has training wheels. Good grief. This post cracked me up. Bet you're looking forward to her driving a car. :-O

I love the post. You can tell Annie, that as a nearly 31 year old, I am larning to ride a bike also. I am not good. But I don't hit parked cars. I just panic whenever people are near me and end up putting my feet down. B and M are trying to teach me how to go down hills - i.e. not pedalling and B is threatening to teach me how to go down and up kerbs....I fear it will be a long summer. Why are you surprised a person would hit a garage door?? Should I post a pic of our garage door?? She's just like her mom only it wasn't a bike in our case! Oops, I wouldn't tell on you but since we're talking of daughters.
I am really glad I read this post. Lillian is five and has a bike with training wheels still, but is so afraid to even ride her bike. I am hoping she eventually becomes comfortable enough to enjoy it!

I love that she is such a girly girl and wears a skirt to learn to ride her bike :) I also noticed that you must have bought stock in helmets cuz she went from pink/red to black in the same post!

Oh Libbie, Annie looks so adorable on her bike! I won't be parking my car in your neighborhood although I've got a daughter learning to drive and let me tell you, that puts everything in perspective! It's one thing to run into parked cars on a bike and quite another when they grow up and get behind the wheel! Slightly nervewracking, I must admit...
Still, I managed to teach one girl to drive and I'm sure I can do it with another... Speaking of my eldest, she started college yesterday. Sigh - the day will come when you wish for these days of busyness and chaos to return. I've got a sweet photo on my latest blog post of her and her special someone. When/if you have time, take a look and imagine Annie in about 12 years or so... I'm not kidding, it really happens! Handsome, courageous young men somehow manage to win our daughters' hearts!

Anyway she is just tooooo adorable going down the street with that little skirt flying in the wind. I can just see the happiness all over her beautiful face.
