It's Time

Annie always helps me with the dishes at home, but on Sudays at my mom's, the moms always take over the kitchen.

This Sunday when the cousins left early I decided it was time.
Time for Annie to join the women in the kitchen.

She was excited when I asked her to dry the dishes
for Grandma while I fed Roo, "Ooooooo!  Really?!"

Then we told her all about the kitchen:

It's a privilege to be invited into the kitchen to help.

We don't let the men help because it is too much fun!

It's a bonding time for the women,
we talk about how our weeks went and all kinds of good stuff.
:)

As I listened from the next room I heard her,
"So Grandma..what did you do this week?"

...and they talked.

And then it was true...all the stuff we said,
it is a bonding time...it IS fun.

Made me smile as I remembered all the hours trying to get my sisters to do the dishes for me.

And when Grandma rested on a stool to talk to me for a minute...
Annie peeked her head in,
"Grandma!  Get back to work!"

Made even me think of dishes in a whole new way.

Wonderful memories! That's the part I like most about the holidays now that I'm grown--getting in the kitchen with Mom, getting in each other's way, laughing and chatting and just being close. I'm glad you guys have this time together and that you're teaching her about the beauty of female community.

So precious for Annie! She is part of the ladies gang, now! So sweet that you can see the beauty in life's little lessons.

I always love reading your posts Libbie! I love seeing your family through your eyes, through your kids' eyes. It's so magical. Especially in this post, we can feel the love you have for your family and your traditions. It's so nice to see that and be a little part of it, even if it's just through reading your blog. Please tell your sisters and parents I say hi!

All that "bonding" I missed out on by leaving early. Total bummer, but I am sure mom has more bonding for us tomorrow after we eat them out of house and home and mess up the basement. (And the living room, and the family room, not to mention the kitchen...) And after I steal all the coupons from their Sunday paper.

That is so sweet. I remember when I was able to do dishes with my mom and grandma, I miss those days and even now when I do dishes I get a little smile on my face. :)

Aww, she's growing up! What a privelage. It doesn't put things in a whole new light when you make them special like that.

So Sweet and so true! We used to crank up the Sound of Music sound track, sing, and maneuver around my grandma's ally kitchen...fun memories! At my mom's home we cranked up the Beatles. At our house the girls bless us with what ever song they can't get out of their heads:0)
