Annie's Bracelets

When I told Annie about all that is going on in Haiti...I will never forget the horror on her face.  She said, "Mom we have to go there no matter how far away it is & help."
When I explained that we can't go there but we could help in other ways she said, "Let's give them ALL our money and send Dad to work tomorrow to make more money for us."
That is when I said, "Annie, we can't give away ALL our money, but, if you had money you could give it to them.  Maybe you could make something to sell."

When she got home from Kindergarten at noon she worked for 6 hours stright making bracelets.  I could not believe how hard she worked!

Beading here...

Beads there...

Beading, beading everywhere!

She could hardly wait to start selling!  She put on her hat & coat & with her little fist full of bracelets she turned and said, "I can do this alone.  I want to go alone."  So I stood back, told her what homes she could go to, (did A TON of spying) and let her go.

She came back with 4 dollars and she was so happy!  (She is asking 1 dollar a piece.)  She also said, "One house had no money, so we need to make more bracelets to sell so we can give them some money."   Oh, how I love her!!!

After hitting up the Grandparents, Annie had sold 15 bracelets and made over 50 dollars.  She worked again today to make a whole new batch & she took them to church tonight.  She has raised over 100 dollars ~ thanks to all of our generous friends!

We have more to make for Sunday because some more requests came in but I am just so happy to see my daughter not only have compassion, but taking action!  SO you see...to me...these little plastic bracelets...are the most beautiful jewelry in the world.

This is really heart warming. Annie, you are a very kind and creative little girl. My daughter Rebecca (who is 4) would like to have one of your little bracelets and help you to collect money. Rebecca has money in her piggy bank she says she can use. Would Annie like to send one to Ireland? (Rebecca's Mummy will pay for postage) :)

As I read this and looked at Annie's beautiful bracelets, I imagined each shiny, colorful bead to be a child - woman - man - grandma -- the face of someone Annie is helping! Oh what a blessing to know that your child has the compassion of Jesus already in her young heart!!!

My daughter was inspired by this story. She gathered up some stuffed animals and put them in a box to send to the children in Haiti.
My son also drew some pictures to send.
My daughter and I sat down tonight and made several bracelets. I will be selling them later this month at a scrapbook retreat.
Thank you for this beautiful post!
I will post an entry on my blog later in the month about how we were inspired by your Sweet Angel.

You've taught your daughter well and she listened with her heart. I'm proud of her, too, and it's something she'll never forget (or you). Surely, there's a store out there who could donate more beads for this worthy cause. God bless you and your daughter.

This is AMAZING! I'm a preschool teacher at Head Start in Passaic, NJ. Today my children were discussing the news and children of Haiti. They were very concerned and so interested in learning about what an earthquake is. I was researching what children can do to help...with out having to donate money. (We are not allowed to take money from our families.) I came across Annie's story and it touched my heart!!! I am going to talk to my children about making & selling braclets to donate money to UNICEF. Thank you so much! Your doing a wonderful job raising your child and teaching her how to be a great person...WE NEED TO INSTILL THESE QUALITIES IN OUR CHILDREN TO CARRY OVER INTO THE FUTURE!!!

Love,
Ms. Angelica

What you are doing is amazing, you truely are gifted. I do have a question about your bracelets. I would love to buy a few of your bracelets, how and are you selliing them to anyone that wants them? I have a dear friend that has cancer and I would love to buy multicolored pink bracelets to show support for her and others battling cancer, I have also lost a brother to cancer, and would love to have a blue and yellow bracelet for him, for me. If this is out of line for me to ask I am truely sorry and will understand if you are not able to do this. I would love to get an email from you letting me know one way or another if this is possible or not. Thank you so much. and you are an exceptional young girl. may God bless you always. It's Renee from naelynn24@yahoo.com again...........looks like I'm not the only one who wants Annie's Bracelets!!! Just an idea: there is a good site called Etsy at etsy.com that sells handmade items that I've had great luck with, it maybe a good place for her to sell her bracelets.....she can set up a whole profile with pictures, tell her story and everything....and do the whole secure/pay pal thing.

Just read Annie's Story and I too want to purchase some of her bracelets.
My email is rcthompson@ccis.com
I can pay by paypal, money order, or check whichever you prefer.

I read your story in Good Housekeeping and immediately came home to find out how to buy some bracelets. I also make jewelry and think Annie is such an inspiring little girl to want to make a difference. Are the bracelets strictly the crystal beads or could you use some extras that I have. I would like to donate beads, charms, string, whatever to the project. My email address is houkospocus@yahoo.com Keep up the great work.
