Clutter Free Quest

In my attempt to make life simpler as a mom, I am actually dedecorating (no...not a real word).  The decorations in my kitchen get dusty & clutter up the counter space.  I still want a finished look in my home but I don't want anything cluttering up the kitchen.

Here is my latest phase of the plan.  I took all decorations off this counter & designed this little shelf to add a pop of color.  My husband whipped it together & I am smiling everytime I see it :)

Amazingly enough this simple change has helped my keep this counter spotless for 2 weeks so far.  And it is a cinch to wipe down now.  If you have any more ideas for simplifying my life...I am all ears!

Bonjour Libbie,
Just found your beautiful blog via a comment yo left on Karen's Blog, and you mentioned your sister was Kate of Auntie Cakes. Kate is such a wonderful blog friend. This is a great storage solution - you've given me a very good idea...
Will be following along and will be back soon.
Happy week to you,
Mimi

That's so cute and with the pop of color in the background. Well done! Clutter??? My only solution is all kinds of bins and baskets, but now what do I do with them??? :P

I love this! And guess what? I was thinking of doing something similar in my kitchen to be by taking off some cabinet doors and just papering the back with a fun paper or even fabric. I really love your shelf. This would make me happy every single day.
Ideas to simplify your life...I will have to get back to you. Maybe when I come up with a brilliant solution for unpacking groceries in less time then it takes to purchase them. Or making dinner like Judy Jetson. No, wait! To have cupboards and pantry that work like vending machines and when you take something out, another just pops right into it's place. Yeeeeessss. Must figure this out so Libbie and Jess can revolutionize kitchens everywhere...you in?

Love the shelf. I had been thinking of something similar - a hanging down shelf of some sort for putting things in. I suffer between minimal and clutter. Oh well. It makes things interesting! Jenn

It looks fabulous! I too am trying to simplify my life, basically at this stage trying to get rid of stuff. I am tring to have more things going out, than coming into my home.
I just feel so weighed down by it all.

Hi Libbie,
You know what prevents clutter in my house? Staying out of Target and Home Goods. Every time I go into one of those stores I inevitably come out with some great item that I couldn't leave in the store. When I come home I find I have begun to run out of spaces for all those purchases. I have found the storage room in the basement is beginning to bulge from all my cast offs. I really need to have a yard sale to get rid of the clutter. It does make your mind feel more free without all the "stuff".
I love your pretty spice shelf. Maybe you can modify one for your bathroom...without the spices, of course. :)
I hope your kids are staying out of trouble, well maybe a little, your stories are too cute. Where would you be without all the antics???? I just love Annie with the eyeshadow BTW!!!
Have a wonderful day!
XoXo

That is really a cute idea. I need to do the same thing and now that I see this, perhaps I can get moving instead of procrastinating.

Adorable! I too am in the making "Order from Chaos" mode! Even still, I would need a much larger box to house all the things cluttering my own counter top!
Warmly,
